The evening
Every workshop is built around a theme — an artist, a movement, a mood, a set of references. You are not copying one mandatory image. You choose what speaks to you, and you paint your own version of it.
There is music, there is conversation, there is usually a glass of something. The room is small enough that nobody paints unnoticed, and relaxed enough that nobody feels watched.
What is coming up
Places are limited on purpose — the room stays small enough for real attention.
Night light and deep blues
An evening built around night pictures — lamplight, wet streets, windows from the outside. Deep blues, warm points of light, and no need to draw anything realistically.
Objects, shadow and quiet
Fruit, glass, a folded cloth, an ordinary jug. An evening on the oldest subject in painting, and the one that teaches the most.
Sea, weather and thick paint
Put the brushes down. An evening of thick paint, wide horizons and weather, made almost entirely with a palette knife.
How it works
Choose a theme that appeals to you. Every workshop page says exactly what the evening involves.
Book online in a couple of minutes. Pay in full or leave a deposit, whichever the workshop allows.
Materials, aprons and everything else are waiting for you. Come as you are, straight from work if you like.
You work at your own pace with guidance whenever you want it, and take your canvas home the same evening.

If you are hesitating
Most people in the room are in exactly the same position. There is no drawing test and nothing to catch up on. You are shown what to do at every stage.
Roughly half of the people who book come alone, and the evening is arranged so nobody sits in a corner unnoticed. Conversation if you want it, quiet if you do not.
Nobody leaves with a blank canvas. The guidance is hands-on, and the finished piece is genuinely yours — not a stencil everyone copied.

Short marks, bright colour and no black on the palette. An evening spent painting light rather than things.
Flowers, dark grounds and slow looking
Flowers on a dark ground, the way they were painted for three hundred years. Rich, slow and satisfying.
Muted palettes and interiors
An evening on the greys that are not grey at all, and on the small warm light that makes them work.

I booked on my own on a Tuesday and spent the whole evening talking to strangers about colour. I have not switched off like that in months.
I genuinely thought I would be the worst one there. Nobody is the worst one there. I took home something I have actually hung up.
The wine helps, but honestly it was the not-being-rushed. Three hours went past and I did not look at my phone once.
Every evening has a different theme, so it never feels like the same class twice. I have been back three times.
I came because I wanted to meet people and stayed because the painting turned out to be the good part.
We booked four places for a birthday. It was the least awkward group activity I have ever organised.
Questions
None at all. Most people at any given workshop have never used oil paint before. Everything is demonstrated, and the artist works with each person individually during the evening.
It is the most common way people come. Roughly half of the places at each workshop are taken by people arriving alone, and the evening is deliberately structured so that nobody has to introduce themselves cold.
You will be guided the whole way through, and nobody is left with a canvas they cannot finish. If you would rather not take the painting home, that is completely fine too.
Yes — choose the number of places during registration. For groups larger than the per-booking limit, get in touch and it can be arranged directly.
Nothing. Paints, brushes, canvas, aprons and everything else are provided. Wear clothes you would not mind marking, although aprons are given out at the door.
Around three hours, including a break. The exact duration is on each workshop page. It is worth arriving five or ten minutes early to settle in.
