Questions
Frequently asked questions
Everything people usually ask before their first evening.
before you book
Do I need any painting experience?
None at all. Most people at any given workshop have never used oil paint before. Everything is demonstrated, and the artist works with each person individually during the evening.
I want to come on my own. Is that strange?
It is the most common way people come. Roughly half of the places at each workshop are taken by people arriving alone, and the evening is deliberately structured so that nobody has to introduce themselves cold.
What if I do not like what I paint?
You will be guided the whole way through, and nobody is left with a canvas they cannot finish. If you would rather not take the painting home, that is completely fine too.
Can I book for two people?
Yes — choose the number of places during registration. For groups larger than the per-booking limit, get in touch and it can be arranged directly.
on the day
What should I bring?
Nothing. Paints, brushes, canvas, aprons and everything else are provided. Wear clothes you would not mind marking, although aprons are given out at the door.
How long does a workshop last?
Around three hours, including a break. The exact duration is on each workshop page. It is worth arriving five or ten minutes early to settle in.
Is there wine? Is there a non-alcoholic option?
Both. A glass of wine and soft drinks are included, along with something to eat during the break.
Can I take the painting home the same evening?
Yes. Oil paint is still wet, so it is carried flat and handled carefully, and you are shown how to get it home without smudging it.
booking and payment
Can I pay a deposit instead of the full price?
On workshops where it is offered, yes — the deposit amount is shown on the workshop page and the balance is settled on the day. Where only full payment is offered, the workshop page says so.
What happens if I cannot come?
The cancellation and refund policy is linked in the footer and summarised on every workshop page. If something has happened at short notice, get in touch — a place can often be transferred to someone else or to another date.
Is my card safe?
Card details are entered on the payment provider’s own secure pages and are never seen or stored by this website.
The workshop I want is sold out. What now?
Join the waitlist on that workshop page. You are contacted first if a place opens up, and before anyone else if a second date is added.
